About the Westman Football Club (WFC)

What is Westman FC?
Westman FC is the competitive branch of the WRSA’s player pathway.   Westman FC provides youth players U12 and older from the WRSA with the opportunity to play soccer at the highest levels available in our province.   Our teams compete against Winnipeg teams, and also enter tournaments throughout the year.   Westman FC teams may also represent the WRSA at special competitions such the Manitoba Summer Games.

Westman FC Competition Seasons:
Westman FC has 2 seasons:  The outdoor soccer season runs from April to November where teams are on the pitch a minimum of 3x per week.  There is a  break in the summer in games for the month of July.  The indoor futsal season runs from November to April where teams practice 1-2x per week and there is a 2 week break in December/January during the holiday season.

Westman FC Player Evaluations/Team Selection
Evaluations will be held mid to the end of March. With team selection finalized in early April. Please email WestmanFC2022@gmail.com if your child is interested.

Westman FC teams are selected based on player assessments prior to the start of the season.   Assessments are completed by independent evaluators under the supervision of the President of the WRSA board.  The WRSA and Westman FC will post assessment dates/times/locations of assessments. Typically, outdoor season assessments will occur in February, and indoor season (futsal) assessments will occur in November. Keep an eye on social media and the WRSA website for details on the upcoming season.

As the Westman FC program grows, we plan to offer competitive programming at all ages from U12-U17.   If we do not offer a team in your age division, please contact us at westmanfc@westmansoccer.ca, or info@westmansoccer.ca about possible playing options.

Westman FC Location of Play
During the outdoor soccer and indoor futsal seasons, Westman FC teams practice within the region’s communities.   During the outdoor season, games are typically played against Winnipeg teams either in Portage, Winnipeg or occasionally teams are willing to travel to our region for play.   A schedule will be provided to players at the beginning of each season.  Teams teams often choose to travel for exhibition weekends or tournaments at various locations both in the US and in Canada.

During the futsal season, teams play exhibition games in Winnipeg , friendly matches between other Westman FC teams, and attend tournaments at various locations both in the US and in Canada.

Estimated Costs Associated with Playing Westman FC
Estimated Costs for the Outdoor & Indoor Seasons are both estimated at $800-1000 per player per season.  These fees cover Manitoba Soccer fees & insurance premiums; WRSA administration, WRSA Technical Director salary if applicable, coach education, coach (non-parent) travel and accommodation as required for them to travel with the team, playing field/gym rental costs, referees for friendly matches, equipment, league and tournament entry fees, player kit (uniforms, track suit, back pack) etc.

There can be significant fluctuation in cost from year to year - specifically with the indoor season depending on the cost of gym rental.  The WRSA participates in the BSD Gym Lottery, and in years that we are successful at obtaining discounted spaces or free gym rental, the savings are passed directly to the players; these savings are very substantial since the primary cost of our futsal program is gym rental.   There is no guarantee from year to year regarding success with the gym lottery, but the WRSA and Westman FC will continue to endeavour to keep costs as low as possible without detracting from the quality of our programming.

NOTE: Teams and Westman FC participate in fundraising and offer corporate sponsorship opportunities to assist in offsetting these costs.  Whenever possible, they also utilize the same player kit for indoor and outdoor seasons, as well as for multiple years for returning players to help keep costs as low as possible.

Westman FC Player Expectations:
In order to compete at the premiere level, Westman FC players are required to be dedicated to their team, their coach and to their own personal development as a player.  We expect players to attend practices and scheduled games/tournaments regularly and on time, to actively listen to their coaches and work to implement what they are taught in practices, and to put their best effort forward at all Westman FC scheduled activities.  We also strongly encourage Westman FC players to participate skill development on their own time (example ball work, watching games).   Westman FC players must understand that when they travel to play, they represent the WRSA and it’s various communities.  Players must act in a manner that is respectful and reflects the values of the WRSA as outlined in the player contract.

Westman FC understands term athletic development, and that multi-sport athletes may have some schedule conflicts.  If you are a multi-sport player, please speak with your coach about this so that decisions can be made both in the best interest of the player and the Westman FC team.
